Heidi braids, we’ve seen a million of them at this point, so it’s hard to surprise me with one. But Beth Behrs managed to do it—by pairing it with a really unexpected eye shadow.

She went red on us. The thing about this juxtaposition that interests me is that the braids are all sweet and soft and romantic while the quirky eye shadow is all hard and edgy—which makes this a fresher take on this look than anything else we’ve seen recently. The lesson: A bold, striking and off-beat eye shadow shade = an instant braid-update.

Here’s how makeup artist mark Celebrity Makeup Artist Jamie Greenberg did it:

“I used mark I-Mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow in Luvstruck in the creases of her eyes and mark On the Dot Bold Eye Color Compact (the burgundy shade) on the outsides of her eyes and under her lash lines.” After adding black eyeliner, she says, “I finished the look with one layer of mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black and one layer of YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara in Burgundy.”
